Dr Mohit Tolani is a regional dentist based in the Illawarra region of New South Wales (NSW), who, in addition to undertaking professional development studies and leadership commitments ranging across nationally, has altruistically devoted his time to various career and community initiatives. As the principal dentist and director of Shellharbour Dentists, Dr Tolani is seen as an encouraging role model for modern day young professionals aiming to bridge the gaps within the community interweaving professional work with community service.
Dr Tolani graduated as a dentist from Griffith University in the Gold Coast completing the degrees of Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science in 2014 and Graduate Diploma of Dentistry in 2016. Further to this, Dr Tolani also holds degrees of Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) (from Sydney University), Master of Public Health and Master of Health wManagement (from the University of New South Wales), a Graduate Certificate in Health and Medical Leadership (from the University of Wollongong) and is currently specialising in the field of Dental Public Health at Sydney University. Earlier in his career, Dr Tolani moved from Gold Coast to Shepparton before moving to his current employer now based at Dapto and running his own clinic in Shellharbour.
In addition to full-time work, extra-professional studies and research work, his contribution and growth within the dentistry discipline has been appreciated due to the constructive difference it has made to healthcare, indigenous students’ education, dental health advocacy, multicultural enrichment, professional development, and youth leadership. He has undertaken and convened several dental charitable initiatives and community service projects making a difference both locally and nationally. Some of his notable acknowledgements include The University of Sydney Young Alumni award, Griffith University Outstanding Health Alumnus of the Year Award, Citizen of the Year Award by the Shellharbour City Council (as part of the Australia Day awards) and both the national and state of NSW Pride of Australia Medal. Moreover, the international Global Summits Institute (GSI), a preeminent peer-to-peer organization in recognizing leading global doctors, recognised Dr Tolani as one of the 2023 ‘world’s top 100 doctors’ attributing to his clinical excellence and community leadership in serving the healthcare profession.
